How to Replace a Salvage Key For a BMW
1. Call the BMW customer service line at (800) 831-1117. Tell them the model and year of your BMW and request a quote for the price for a replacement key. The price usually ranges from a couple hundred to several hundred dollars for the key and programming. You will need details about your car to prove ownership, so have the VIN number and title ready when speaking with a representative.
2. Go online and search for a BMW dealership or else call for information about one nearest to you. You can take your car in and have them cut a new key and program it for you, and the cost will be similar to ordering a key from the BMW service center. Be sure to ask about the number of keys offered in the deal and verify that the programming cost is included in the total price.
3. Search online for a replacement key from a third party seller. While buying a replacement key outside of BMW can be much cheaper, you must verify that you can program the key yourself and that instructions are included with the key. If you purchase a key from a non-authorized BMW supplier and cannot program it yourself, you will have to take the vehicle into a BMW dealership and pay their programming fee.

How Do I Replace the Fuel Filter on a 2001 BMW 330i
1. Open the glove box. Open the fuse box by turning the two white tabs on either side of it. Remove the #54 fuse, which controls the fuel pump. Remove the gas cap. Start the engine and let it run until it stalls from lack of fuel.
2. Raise the BMW with a floor jack. Lower it onto jack stands at all four corners. Remove the fuel filter protective panel, which is located under the car just to the front of the drivers seat. The panel is held on with four screws that are removed with a Phillips screwdriver.
3. Remove the metal clamp that holds the fuel filter in place using your hand. Loosen the six hose clamps that fasten the fuel lines to the fuel filter. Place a container under the filter to catch spilled fuel. Pull the hoses off of the filter. You may need to twist the hoses with pliers to get them off of the filter.
4. Drain the excess fuel from the filter into the container. Discard the filter. Install the new fuel filter in the same orientation as the old one. Slide the fuel lines onto the new filter. It is recommended to replace the BMW hose clamps with conventional hose clamps that can be tightened with a screwdriver, as the original clamps require a special tool to tighten easily. You can also use a pair of pliers to tighten the original hose clamps a little at a time.
5. Reinstall the clamp that holds the filter in place. Reinstall the oil filter protective panel. Lower the car back to the ground. Reinstall the #54 fuse. Put the fuel cap back on. Start the car and check for leaks.

How to Replace a Windshield Washer Pump in a 1997 BMW
1. Park your BMW on a flat surface, such as in a garage, and set the parking brake. Unlatch the hood of your vehicle and raise it to access the engine. Locate the washer fluid reservoir and place the drain pan on the floor of the garage directly underneath the reservoir. Open the filler cap and reach down until you find the rubber hose connected at the bottom. Pull this hose off and allow it to drain into the pan on the floor.
2. Locate the power wire for the reservoir pump and unplug it from its connection. Use the sockets or wrenches to remove the mounting bolts on either side of the reservoir. Remove the fluid container from the engine and set it to the side with the mounting bolts.
3. Unlatch the wiring harness plug from the washer pump and free it from the firewall. Pay attention to the way the pump sets against the rubber grommet and how the fluid hose connects to the reservoir, as your new pump will come with a new rubber grommet and fluid hose. Mount the new pump in the same position until its up against the firewall; reattach the wiring harness.
4. Place the fluid reservoir back into its original place and connect the hose from the pump into the nipple on the bottom of the reservoir. Reconnect the wiring to the fluid transfer case and rethread the mounting bolts back into place. Tighten them with a wrench or the socket set. Fill the reservoir with fluid and close the hood of your vehicle. Start the engine and test the new pump until fluid comes out onto your windshield.

How to Replace the Transmission Fluid in an Audi A4
1. Warm your cars fluids by driving at least 10 minutes before parking. This allows the fluid to thin, making the emptying process easier.
2. Elevate your vehicle evenly using a car jack and jack stands.The car should not be tipped in either direction, since a tipped transmission is dangerous during the procedure because hot fluid could spill out and cause injury.
3. Locate your transmission pan under the drivers side hood of your vehicle. The fluid will be in the square, bolted filter pan.
4. Place your drip pan on the ground beneath the transmission pan area, as a safeguard in the case of spillage.
5. Remove all of the bolts using your socket wrench on one side of the transmission pan, beginning in any corner. It is important to take the bolts off very slowly, so that any fluid that drips will gradually fall into the drip pan and not on you.
6. Lower the transmission pan to ground level without tipping it to either side, since it is likely to be filled with old transmission fluid. If any fluid spills, use your shop rag to wipe up the spill.
7. Discard the old transmission fluid by carefully pouring one corner of the transmission pan at the opening of the milk jug until the pan is completely emptied.
8. Wipe the transmission pan clean, so that no particles or residue from the old fluid can contaminate the new fluid.
9. Mount the transmission pan back into its original position by hand-tightening the bolts for a temporary hold.
10. Secure the bolts into place using your socket wrench. It is important to wiggle the pan a bit to be sure that no bolts are loose and that there is no crevice between the transmission pan and the actual transmission.
11. Remove your jack stands and lower the car jack with caution.
12. Fill the new transmission fluid to the fill line. The typical refill capacity for an Audi A4 is three quarts, although you should watch the line carefully to be sure that you do not go significantly over or under this marking.
13. Run your engine in the park gear for approximately five minutes before checking the fluid levels again. The warmth of the engine will make the fluid settle into the transmission.
14. Measure the fluid level using the transmission dipstick. If the fluid reads below the capacity line, more fluid can be poured into the transmission opening while the car is still running. Shifting the gears of the car may also help the fluid to settle for a more accurate reading, although this is not required.
15. When the dipstick shows the transmission fluid at a sufficient level, the transmission fluid change is complete.
How to Replace a 1999 C230 Benz Fuel Sending Unit
1. Park your C230 in a safe, level location. Engage the parking brake or apply blocks to the wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Open the trunk. Locate the trunk service area on the driver side wall of the trunk. Open the service area using a flathead screwdriver to open the release clips.
2. Locate the fuse box inside the service area. Open the fuse box panel using a flathead screwdriver. Locate the fuel relay inside the rear fuse box. Gently pull the fuel relay to disconnect the fuel relay.
3. Open the vehicles hood. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Locate the fuel filler cap on the passenger side of the vehicle. Open the cap and insert a manual fuel siphon pump. Remove the fuel from the fuel tank using the siphon pump.
4. Raise the rear of the vehicle using a car jack. Apply jack stands to the rear axles to keep the vehicle elevated. Crawl underneath your vehicle from the rear. Locate the fuel tank on the passenger side of the vehicle. Support the fuel tank by applying a car jack underneath the tank.
5. Locate the first aid box inside the trunk area on the package tray. Open the first aid box and remove the first aid kit inside it. Inspect the package tray closely. Notice the package tray is secured by two screws. Loosen and remove these screws using a screwdriver.
6. Remove the package tray from the trunk area. Set the package tray aside in a safe location. Inspect the area where the package tray was located. You should now be looking at the top of the fuel tank.
7. Locate the cover for the fuel sending unit at the top of the fuel tank. Remove the cap of the fuel sending unit using a flathead screwdriver to pry the cap off. Set the cap aside. Underneath the cap is the fuel sending unit.
8. Remove the fuel sending unit using an adjustable wrench. Unscrew the unit and pull it up and out of the fuel tank. Discard the old fuel sending unit.
9. Replace the fuel sending unit by sliding a new unit into the fuel tank. Replace the cover for the fuel sending unit. Ensure the cover is screwed tightly to prevent a fuel vapor leak. Replace the package tray in to the trunk and secure it with the screws you previously removed. Return the first aid kit. Replace the fuel relay into the rear fuse box.
10. Remove the jack stand underneath the fuel tank and lower the vehicle to the ground. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery. Refill the fuel tank. Turn on the ignition. Allow the vehicle to idle for at least 10 minutes to pressurize the fuel system. During this time, inspect underneath the vehicle for a fuel leak.
How to Replace the Brake Pads on a BMW 528i
1. Park the BMW in an area that will allow you to work on both sides of the vehicle. Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels with the tire iron. Place the lifting jack beneath the frame on the left side of the vehicle. Lift the vehicle and place jack stands under the frame.
2. Turn the steering wheel to the right. This will allow for easier access to the caliper bolts on the left brake.
3. Unscrew the lug nuts and remove them. Pull the left wheel off the wheel bolts.
4. Remove the two caliper bolts with the 7-mm hex socket and ratchet. Pull the caliper from the rotor. Do not allow the brake caliper to hang freely; the tension from the weight of the caliper can disconnect the brake line. Rest the caliper on the removed tire, laid flat near the wheel well.
5. Remove the metal clips on the top and bottom of the caliper by prying them from the caliper with a flat screwdriver.
6. Remove the brake pads from the inner sides of the caliper. Inspect the rotor for scoring.
7. Place the C-clamp onto the piston and the outer edge of the caliper. Screw the clamp to force the piston into the side of the caliper. (The piston is the ring that sticks out from the inside of the caliper wall.)
8. Place the brake pads onto the inside of the caliper walls. Replace the metal clips on the top and bottom of the caliper. Squeeze the clips against the caliper until they snap into place, connecting to the caliper and locking the pads in place.
9. Place the caliper onto the brake rotor. Replace the caliper bolts and tighten them with the hex socket and ratchet.
10. Replace the brake pads on the left rear wheel as you did the front brake. (You will be unable to rotate the rotor on the rear brake to gain access to the caliper bolts as easily as on the front brake.)
11. Turn the steering wheel so that the wheels are pointed forward. Replace the left wheels onto the wheel bolts and screw on the lug nuts.
12. Lift the vehicle with the jack to remove the jack stands. Lower the vehicle and move to the right side of the BMW.
13. Place the jack beneath the frame, lift the BMW, and place the jack stands under the frame. Lower the vehicle onto the stands. Remove the lug nuts and wheels on the right side.
14. Turn the steering wheel to the left and replace the right front brake pads as you did the left side. Replace the rear brake pads.
15. Turn the steering wheel to the neutral position and replace the wheels and lug nuts on the left side. Remove the jack stands and lower the BMW to the ground.
16. Tighten the lug nuts on all four wheels with the tire iron.
17. Press the brake pedal slowly a few times, holding each depression for three seconds. This will replenish the brake fluid in the caliper piston that was displaced by forcing the piston open.
How to Replace the Lens on a BMW 325
Removing and Replacing
1. Pull the lever located near the foot pedals on the drivers side of your BMW 325 to unlatch your hood. Face the hood of your vehicle and pull the hood-release lever located in the grille of your car to fully open the hood.
2. Shine your flashlight to the lower right or left corner inside your hood to find the interior part of your corner turn lens. Locate an oval-shaped hole behind the corner turn lens.
3. Push down and outward on the plastic clip within the oval hole with your flathead screwdriver to release the corner turn lens. Continue to keep your screwdriver in place within the oval hole while pulling the corner turn lens out with your free hand. Set the corner turn lens aside for re-installation. Removing your corner turn lens makes the headlight lens accessible for removal.
4. Lift up on the three tabs located on the top of the rubber trim that surrounds your headlight lens with your fingers. Remove the trim to loosen your headlight lens. Set the trim aside for re-installation.
5. Move your fingers around the top of your headlight lens and pull up on the three tabs that secure the headlight lens in place. Repeat this procedure on the bottom of the lens. Pull one tab out from each side of the lens. Pull the lens towards you once all tabs are released.
6. Align your new headlight lens in place. Push it with slight force to snap it into place. Push the rubber trim back into place snapping the connected tabs down. Push the corner turn lens into its original position until it clips back in.
7. Repeat Steps 1 to 7 to replace the headlight on the opposite side of your BMW 325.
